周知する

日本の辞書にあまり載っていないが、
頻出のビジネス口語。

軽い語調に見えるが、普通に真面目な言い方。
メールなど、文面でも使う。

内輪話だった内容を、外に出して（”get – out”）、
皆に知らせること（周知）。

◆ “word” の語源は、古英語「言葉」（word）。

原義は「話す」。
他動詞「言葉で表す」につながる意味合いである。

【発音】 wə́ːrd

この場合の “the word” の意味は、
「その言葉」でなく「その話題」。
–
すなわち、具体的な言葉よりも、＜情報＞を指す。

基本は単数形（word）だが、
複数形（words）で使われるケースもある。

次の2つでも同様で、

基本は単数形 “word” （複数形もありうる）

この2つは「周知する」に加えて、
「言いふらす」「うわさを広める」
と悪意を込めることができる。

同じく、口頭でも文面でも使う。

表題 “get the word out” は、もっと公平中立で無難な印象。–

単数形 “word” のみ

副詞 “still” または “yet“（まだ、依然として）を伴うことが多い。

• “Still no word on his whereabouts.”
  “No word on his whereabouts yet.”
  （まだ彼の行方は発表されていない。）

  （彼らからまだ連絡がない。）

◆ “There are (were) no words – ” として、複数形 “words”
を用いると、以下のように別の意味となる。

• 表現する言葉が見つからない
