核心、 本質、 実態

初めて見聞きすると、スラングか何かと勘違いしそう。

とんでもない。

ビジネス会議にも普通に出てくる、 真面目な単語である。

発音とスペルに特徴があるので、 一度学んでおけば、
次回はきっと自力でいける。

ー

◆  まず、 発音から。

繰り返しつぶやき、 脳みそに刷り込んでしまおう。

【発音】 nítigríti

「 ニ ティ  グ リティ 」 などと聞こえる。

軽やかに韻を踏んでおり （ 押韻 ）、 耳心地がよい。

” nitty-gritty ” は、 末尾の  ” tty ” が韻を踏む
「 脚韻 （ きゃくいん ） 」 （ end rhyme ）。

◆  逆に、 最初で韻を踏むのは 「 頭韻（ とういん ）」
（ head rhyme、 alliteration ）。

例えば、

•  first and foremost
•  works wonder
•  crystal clear
•  bombshell blond

有名な頭韻の商標名・固有名詞の例は、

“ first and foremost ”  で一覧にした。

意味は 「 基本的事実 」。

アメリカ英語。

名詞の初出は1961年で、 形容詞 （ adjective ） は1966年。

ジャズミュージシャン由来で 「 粉末状のとうもろこし 」
と成り立ちを推定 （ ” perhaps ” ）する。

 

◆  語源不詳 （ ” unknown origin ” ） と記す英英辞書もある。

例えば、 OALD9（ オックスフォード）。

” singular ” とは、 「 単数名詞 」。

単数形で使われるのが一般的な名詞 のこと。

表示があった。

うち3点に  ” singular ” 表示。

どれも 「 基本的事実 」 の範疇。

主な同義語は、 ” core “、 ” essence “、 ” focus “、
” bottom line “、” reality “。

名詞も形容詞も、 これ以外の意味合いで使われる
ケースはないに等しい。

そのため、 次に挙げる代表例を押さえておけば、 基本はOK。

使用場面により、 先ほどの3つ 「 核心 」「 本質 」「 実態 」
