◆  職場 でトラブル原因を問われた際、

よく出てくる言い開きがこちら。

（ なんらかの伝達ミスが生じたに違いありません。）

要は、コミュニケーションがうまくいかなかったということ。

助動詞 （ auxiliary verb ） と 現在完了形 （ past perfect ）

の  “ must have been ” （ ～ だったに違いない ）
で、 懸命に弁解する様子がうかがえる。

相手に責任をなすりつけたい場合は、 こんな感じ。

( Ｘさんとの間に、伝達ミスが生じているようですね。）

自動詞 （ intransitive  verb ） ” seem ” に、

他動詞 （ transitive  verb  ） ” have “。

こっちの ” have ” は、 助動詞ではないため、 完了形にならない。

使い手には応分の自信があり、 自身の主観的な憶測に基づき、
きつめに指摘している。

◆  近年、カタカナでも耳にするようになってきた

名詞 「 ミスコミュニケーション 」。

その動詞は 「 ミスコミュニケート 」。

定訳は存在しないに等しい。

意味の推測は難しくないだろう。それぞれ、

•  接頭辞  ” mis ” ＋ 名詞  ” communication “
•  接頭辞  ” mis ” ＋ 動詞  ” communicate “

◆  接頭辞  ” mis- ” は、「 誤って 」「 悪い 」。

これらは日本でも普及している。

•  「 ミスプリント 」 （ misprint ）
•  「 ミスキャスト 」 （ miscast ）

さらに「 ミスする 」は、「 失敗すること 」
の意で常用されている。

実のところ、「 ミスする 」はカタカナ語に近く、
英語では ” miss ” よりも、 ” mistake ” が適切 （※）。

両方とも、名詞・他動詞・自動詞がある。

妥当性は微妙だが、「 ミス 」 ＝ 「 誤り 」
の意味合いで、 日本で根づいているのは確か。

そのため、「 ミスコミュニケーション 」と
「 ミスコミュニケート 」の意味は比較的容易に
推し量ることができる。

◆  ” communicate ” には、他動詞と自動詞がある。

【発音】  kəmjúːnikèit
【音節】  com-mu-ni-cate  （4音節）

語源は、ラテン語「 伝える 」（ commūnicātus ）。

基本的意味は語源通りで、 日常使用の中心。

その名詞 ” communication ” は、もっと馴染み深い。

同じく、語源はラテン語「 伝達 」（ commūnicātiō ）。

【発音】  kəmjùːnikéiʃən
【音節】  com-mu-ni-ca-tion  （5音節）

可算と不可算を兼ねる。

いずれにも、項目立てされていないのだ。

認められていないのだろうか。

単語であるはず。

しかし、” miscommunicate ” することができなければ、

くらいが穏当な和訳。
